AET CREATES EMBOSSING SERVICES FOR HOLOGRAPHIC MARKET

NEW CASTLE, DE - AET Films today announced that the company is moving forward with high-speed, wide-web embossing of holographic films at their Varennes, Quebec, Canada plant. AET will focus their holographic roll production on the special effects packaging segment, where they feel they can bring real value to the marketplace. The company has installed custom embossing equipment at the site and expects to make their first shipments before the end of June 2003.

AET Business Director for holographic films, Marty Aleksis, had this to say: "We want to increase the penetration of holography into new applications, particularly into flexible packaging where we have a good understanding of the needs of the converting industry and a strong marketing presence already. In our opinion, most of the installed embossing capacity is not well suited to meeting the needs of wide-web, high-speed manufacturing. The cost and quality issues that result from this mismatch of capability and expectations have long kept holography out of reach of many global marketers. Our research indicates that marketers are anxious to embrace holography and apply its unique attention-getting benefits if capacity, quality, cost, and contract supply quantities are geared to their needs. By bringing embossing services in-house, we believe that these issues will fade away, putting holography within reach of many very interested package designers and marketers."

AET Films has for many years supplied their OPP films to the embossing industry. Millions of packages today use the company's specially designed holographic films and, according to Aleksis, these films will continue to be offered to embossers. "Our intention is to develop embossable films that are the best in the market for large-volume marketers, while still helping to lower the cost to the ultimate consumer," says Aleksis. All AET customers have been notified of the company's plans. AET expects that the demand for holographics in packaging and other new applications will work to expand the overall market demand for holography to benefit all embossed film suppliers.
