Applied Extrusion Technologies, Inc. (AET) To Close Small Terre Haute Tubular
Lines
Today AET announced the Company will close the small tubular production lines
at the Terre Haute, IN facility in early December. The company will continue
producing tubular film on their two larger tubular lines. “We have thoroughly
studied options for the small tubular assets at our Terre Haute site,” said
Thomas Mohr, President and Chief Executive Officer of Applied Extrusion Technologies,
Inc. “The oriented polypropylene (OPP) films business is highly competitive
in our core markets. There are many factors that influence competitiveness;
product performance, product uniqueness, customer relationships, service to
customers, purchasing power, and manufacturing costs. Manufacturing productivity
is one of the key factors that affect the cost and ability of a BOPP film supplier
to compete.”
“Although AET continues to enjoy a leading market share in North America,
increased competition from low cost producers with new highly efficient assets
and the present economical downturn has impacted sales output. Therefore, after
careful review and consideration by the AET Management Team, and with the support
of the Board of Directors, the company has made the decision to close our less
competitive small tubular film lines.”
